Pied Cuckoo / Pied Crested Cuckoo
(ගෝමර කොන්ඩකොහා)
Clamator jacobinus

Also referred to as Jacobin cuckoo, I came across two of them in the Kalkudah area. The second one was expertly catching alates (මෙරු) competing with lots of other bird species for them.

Images 7 and 8 are from the outskirts of Kuchchaveli.

Indian Plaintive Cuckoo / Grey-bellied Cuckoo
Cacomantis passerinus

The first set of captures of an Indian Plaintive Cuckoo-Female (Hepatic Morph) made my day in Chundikulam National Park. Initially, we were foxed as to what it is. Gajendran (my guide to the park) had to do a bit of research at home to find out what it is. What a beautiful specimen to come across to start off the Cuckoo page.

Images 8 and 9 are of a male captured in low light at Bundala.

Drongo Cuckoo
(කවුඩුකොහා)
Surniculus dicruroides

Photographed in gloomy light inside a thick patch of forest in the outskirts of Nilgala, this beauty put on a beautiful show. It was spreading its wings and making a lovely call. Unfortunately, it was in the canopy which prevented me taking better photos.
