Eurasian Curlew
(යුරේසියා කැලිකෑයා)
Numenius arquata
Although I have seen one first in Bundala National Park, I couldn't get a proper photograph. It was so disappointing at the time. I came across more in Mannar and managed to get some decent photos. Images 4 and 5 are from a trip afterward to Mannar and Jaffna.
Images 6 to 10 are from Chundikulam National Park. What a strange, specialist bird.

Whimbrel
(විම්බුරලි කැලිකෑයා)
Numenius phaeopus
Seen and photographed near the beach in Vankalai, Mannar. This beautiful bird was walking along the sandy lagoon shore. Based on the shorter beak, and the dark crown with central stripe are the identification markers for this species.
